Keiki book launch includes bone marrow drive

Advertiser Staff

The week author and illustrator Melissa DeSica got the first preview copies of her debut book, "Gecko and Mosquito," she was diagnosed with leukemia.

So at her book launch on Wednesday, June 27, at Borders Books & Music at Ward Center, DeSica will also have a bone marrow registry drive.

"Gecko and Mosquito" tells the entertaining tale of greedy Gecko, the household bully, and clever, witty Mosquito, who proves to be the unlikely hero of the day. Published by Watermark Publishing, it is available in bookstores and other retail outlets, or by ordering direct from the publisher at http://www.bookshawaii.net

The registry will use the "buccal swab" technique, which involves a swab of cheek cells inside the mouth. Donors must be 18 to 60 years old and in good health. For more information on bone marrow donation, call the registry at 547-6154 or visit http://www.marrow.org.

"Gecko and Mosquito" book launch: 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, Borders Books & Music, 2nd Floor, Ward Centre
