A 62-year-old Kalihi man was indicted by the O'ahu grand jury today on a charge of murder in the stabbing of his wife at their Akina Street home June 13.

Victorio Barayuga was indicted on a charge of second-degree murder, which carries a mandatory life prison term with possibility of parole.

Barayuga is accused of stabbing his wife, Liwliwa Barayuga, 63, after she ignored his pleas to return to the Philippines, according to a police affidavit filed in court. He told authorities, "I kill my wife. I beg her, but she didn't listen," the affidavit said.

Victorio Barayuga slashed his wrist after stabbing his wife and was hospitalized before he was later released, authorities said.

He will be arraigned later this month, at which time he is expected to plead not guilty to the charge and receive a trial date.
