Niketown 5K run date set: Sept. 23

Advertiser Staff

A date has been set for the Niketown 5K run, scheduled to take place Sunday, Sept. 23, in Waikiki. The 3.1-mile run raises money for physical education and playground equipment for O'ahu's schools.

Last year's event raised $120,000 for O'ahu's school play, physical education and athletic programs. Over the last seven years, $500,000 has been raised for O'ahu's schools through the Niketown 5K.

A NikeGo 1-mile run/walk also will be held around Fort DeRussy Park.

The Niketown 5K is dedicated to youth physical fitness, and 100 percent of entry fees will be donated to physical education, play and athletic programs. Runners designate their entry fee to the school of their choice.

Participants may run or walk the 3.1 miles or the NikeGo 1 Mile. Parents and children are encouraged to participate together.

There is a $15 entry fee plus $5 for the Niketown 5k T-shirt. The entire entry fee is contributed to O'ahu's schools.

Entry forms will become available next month, and at that time, information will be posted on the Web at www.niketown5k.com.
