Big Island police ask for help in brushfire cases

Advertiser Staff

Police on the Big Island are asking for the public's help in identifying the possible intentional causes of a large number of brushfires in the South Kohala District, particularly in the Waikoloa, Puako and Saddle Road areas.

These fires originated next to major thoroughfares, such as Mamalahoa Highway, Waikoloa Road and Saddle Road.

Police ask that anyone who sees any suspicious activity, or persons along these highway with stopped motor vehicles that have no apparent car trouble or legitimate reasons for being parked, to call the Police Department's central dispatch number immediately at (808) 935-3311.

Anyone with information about any of the previous fires is asked to call Officer William Vickery of the South Kohala District at (808) 887-3080.
