Horizon Lines closes deal to acquire Hawaii Stevedores

Advertiser Staff

Horizon Lines Inc. today announced that it has closed the purchase of Hawaii Stevedores Inc. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

HSI is one of only two stevedoring companies on O'ahu. It's customer base includes container stevedoring, roll-on roll-off operations, bulk cargo operations and passenger cruise lines support.

"After 20 years of service to Hawaii, this investment reflects our continued commitment to the islands," said Mar Labrador, vice president and general Manager of the Hawaii and Micronesia Division for Horizon Lines. "We believe in the strength of the Hawai'i economy and we look to partner with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union in servicing and accommodating the growth of the Hawai'i market for many years to come."

Hawaii Stevedores will operate as a Horizon Lines subsidiary and intends to maintain all HSI stevedoring contracts and any existing labor contracts, officials have said.

Horizon Lines is the nation's leading Jones Act container shipping and integrated logistics company, operating 16 U.S.-flag vessels on routes linking the continental United States with Alaska, Hawai'i, Guam and Puerto Rico.

Horizon Lines also owns Horizon Services Group, including cargo management and tracking services being marketed to shippers, carriers and other supply chain companies.
