Waimanalo Gulch landfill scale may be fixed today

Advertiser Staff

A malfunctioning scale that weighs incoming loads of trash at the city's Waimanalo Gulch landfill may be fixed by tonight, according to Waste Management Inc., which operates the facility.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann told the company yesterday that a new scale must be installed as soon as possible, Waste Management said.

That could take from six weeks to three months, depending on the availability of parts and required permits.

Meanwhile, City Councilman Charles Djou is calling on the city to terminate its contract with Waste Management.
