5 injured, none critically, in head-on collision

Five people were injured today in a head-on collision between a van and sedan on Kamehameha Highway in Kahalu'u.

Five people were injured today in a head-on collision between a van and sedan on Kamehameha Highway in Kahalu'u.

Three men, ages 66, 58 and 37, and a 50-year-old woman in the van and the 31-year-old man driving the sedan that crossed over the center line were taken to The Queen's Medical Center.

The woman was in serious condition and the three others in the van in stable condition, said Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

The sedan driver's condition was also serious.

According to police, the collision between the north end of Kahekili Highway and Lihikai Drive near the Pineapple Hut occurred at 3:59 p.m.

Kamehameha Highway was closed to traffic in both directions from 4 to 5:13 p.m.
