Advertiser Staff

A Kaiho'i Street home was evacuated yesterday as flames from a five-acre brushfire approached within 50 feet of the residence.

The fire was reported shortly after 3 p.m. at the end of Kaiwahine Street, mauka of Pi'ilani Highway, according to acting Battalion Chief Jack Williams. Six fire trucks and a helicopter were used to battle the flames, which were fanned by strong winds, Williams said.

Goodfellow Bros. construction company assisted by providing bulldozer crews to keep the blaze from spreading, he said.

The fire was brought under control at 5 p.m.

No structures were damaged.
