Hilo-based program to join Child and Family Services

Advertiser Staff

Turning Point for Families, Inc., a Hilo-based program that addresses domestic violence issues, will next year join Child and Family Services.

Currently a subsidiary of CFS, Turning Point for Families operates out of Hilo's old IronWorks Building. It has 40 employees and an annual budget of $1.6 million to operate the West Hawaii Domestic Abuse Shelter as well as the Alternatives to Violence program funded by the judiciary.

The Ke Ala Lokahi program, funded by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, brings native Hawaiian practices into intervention for domestic abuse victims and batterers.

Child and Family Services — a private, nonprofit human services provider — was founded as Associated Charities in 1899. It maintains 44 programs on four islands.
