KIHEI, Maui Maui police have tentatively identified a motorcyclist whose body was found in thick brush off North Kihei Road days after he wiped out.The man, believed to be a Kihei resident in his 40s, apparently died sometime within the past week after his motorcycle veered off the two-lane road, said Lt. Robert Hill of the Maui Police Department's Traffic Section.
The body and a motorcycle were found at about 5 p.m. yesterday approximately 10 to 15 feet on the makai side of the road after a passing bicyclist reported a foul odor, Hill said. Neither was visible from the road, he said.
Identification was found with the body and relatives were notified, but police are not releasing the man's name until his identity can be confirmed.
An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
The man had not been reported missing, and a friend told police he last spoke to the motorcyclist on June 19, Hill said.
