HIV screenings today part of 11th national 'Testing Day'

Advertiser Staff

The 11th annual National HIV Testing Day is under way today.

The event was established by the National Association of People with AIDS to encourage awareness and testing.

Locally, the Life Foundation will set up additional testing locations at Papakolea Community Health Center, 2 to 6 p.m. In addition, the group will have its HIV testing van at several locations on the Leeward Coast. Life Foundation offers free and anonymous HIV testing year-round at its office, 677 Ala Moana Blvd., Suite 226.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 180,000 to 280,000 people nationwide are HIV-positive but are unaware of their status.

For additional information, call 521-2437 or visit the Life Foundation's Web site, www.lifefoundation.org.
