Free meals served at 12 Hawaii schools this summer

Free meals are being provided to all children ages 19 and younger at 12 public schools this summer, the state Department of Education said in a news release.

The meals are being provided by the DOE's Food Services Branch through a Summer Food Service Program that is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Eligible schools have 50 percent or more of its regular enrolled students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches and some type of summer program on campus, but meal recipients do not have to be enrolled in those programs, the news release said.

Participating schools:

  • Anuenue School, through July 13, lunch (11 a.m.-noon);

  • Ewa Beach Elementary, through July 6, lunch (10:30-10:45 a.m.);

  • Fern Elementary, through July 20, lunch (11-11:30 a.m.);

  • Jarrett Middle, through July 11, lunch (12:05-12:25 p.m.);

  • Kahuku High & Intermediate, through July 16, breakfast (7:30-7:50 a.m.), lunch (11-11:30 a.m.);

  • Kaimiloa Elementary, through July 7, lunch (10:40-11 a.m.);

  • Kapaa Elementary, through July 13, breakfast (9:45-10 a.m.);

  • Lanakila Elementary, through July 6, lunch (11-11:30 a.m.);

  • Linapuni Elementary, through July 6, breakfast (7:30-7:50 a.m.), lunch (11-11:30 a.m.);

  • Nanaikapono Elementary, through July 6, breakfast (7:30-7:50 a.m.), lunch (11:30 a.m.-noon);

  • Pohakea Elementary, through July 13, lunch (10:30-11 a.m.); and

  • Waimea Elementary, through July 2, lunch (11:30 a.m.-noon).
