By Bob Velin
USA Today

A look at how last year's first-round picks did following the NBA Draft:

1. Andrea Bargnani (Toronto) — The 20-year-old 7-footer from Italy helped the Raptors win their first division title. An appendectomy sidelined him for a month in March. Averaged 11.6 points and 3.9 rebounds. Named to all-rookie first team.

2. LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland, from Chicago) — Missed start (shoulder surgery) and end (Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, a heart condition) of season. Averaged nine points and five rebounds in 63 games. All-rookie first team.

3. Adam Morrison (Charlotte) — College player of the year started quickly, scoring 14 points in debut and 30 vs. Indiana on Dec. 30. Lost starting job in midseason. Averaged 11.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 29.1 minutes. All-rookie second team.

4. Tyrus Thomas (Chicago, from Portland) — Season punctuated by saying he entered the dunk contest solely because of "free money" for participating. Was fined $10,000 by Bulls. Averaged 5.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 13.4 minutes. All-rookie second team.

5. Shelden Williams (Atlanta) — The 6-9 forward from Duke struggled on a bad team, averaging 5.5 points and 5.4 rebounds.

6. Brandon Roy (Portland, from Minnesota) — Averaged 16.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and four assists; was a vote shy of unanimous selection as NBA rookie of the year. All-rookie first team.

7. Randy Foye (Minnesota, from Portland, Boston) — Started 12 games, averaged 22.9 minutes and 10.1 points, 2.8 assists. Could be starting point guard next season with Mike James traded to Houston. All-rookie first team.

8. Rudy Gay (Memphis, from Houston) — Started 43 games and finished fourth among rookies in scoring (10.8 points) and sixth in rebounding (4.5). All-rookie first team.

9. Patrick O'Bryant (Golden State) — The 7-footer was diagnosed with a fractured foot in September and missed most of the season, playing only sparingly near the end.

10. Mouhamed Sene (Seattle) — Another big man (6-11, from Senegal) who played sparingly. He was assigned to the NBA Development League in January.

11. J.J. Redick (Orlando) — Never started but played more when Grant Hill was injured in March and often got 15-20 minutes a game. Averaged six points and 0.9 assists.

12. Hilton Armstrong (New Orleans) — Averaged 11.3 minutes, 3.1 points and 2.7 rebounds for the Hornets.

13. Thabo Sefolosha (Chicago, from Philadelphia) — The 6-7 swingman from Switzerland averaged 3.6 points in 12.2 minutes a game on a deep Bulls team.

14. Ronnie Brewer (Utah) — Played more early in the season, sparingly the last two months, including the playoffs.

15. Cedric Simmons (New Orleans, from Milwaukee) — Was in coach Byron Scott's rotation the first two months for his defensive strength but didn't play much after January. Averaged 2.9 points and 2.5 rebounds.

16. Rodney Carney (Philadelphia, from Chicago) — Played sparingly until Allen Iverson and Chris Webber left in February, then became a starter. Averaged 6.6 points and 1.9 rebounds.

17. Shawne Williams (Indiana) — The 6-9 forward scored 13 in his debut in December but didn't get into the rotation until March. Averaged 3.9 points and 1.8 rebounds.

18. Oleksiy Pecherov (Washington) — Did not play, opting to stay in Ukraine. But the 7-footer will sign in July and play summer league.

19. Quincy Douby (Sacramento) — The 6-3 guard scored 2.8 points a game for the Kings, who picked up his option for next season.

20. Renaldo Balkman (New York, from Denver) — Surprise pick on draft day was pleasant surprise for the Knicks, averaging 15.6 minutes, 4.9 points, and 4.3 rebounds.

21. Rajon Rondo (Boston, from Phoenix) — Led NBA in steals per 48 minutes (3.36). Grabbed 14 rebounds in a game against San Antonio. All-rookie second team.

22. Marcus Williams (New Jersey, from L.A. Clippers) — Got playing time behind Jason Kidd, averaging 6.8 points, 3.3 assists and 16.6 minutes. All-rookie second team.

23. Josh Boone (New Jersey) — Appeared in 61 games (4.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 11 minutes) before surgery for torn knee cartilage.

24. Kyle Lowry (Memphis) — The 6-0 point guard was averaging 17.5 minutes a game before his season ended because of a broken wrist after he had played only 10 games.

25. Shannon Brown (Cleveland) — An injured shin limited the 6-4 guard to 32 games. Averaged 8.8 minutes and 3.2 points.

26. Jordan Farmar (L.A. Lakers, from Miami) — On April 1, became the first to play in a Development League and NBA game the same day. Averaged 6.4 points and 2.8 rebounds.

27. Sergio Rodriguez (Portland, from Phoenix) — The point guard from Spain averaged 12.9 minutes, 3.7 points and 3.3 assists.

29. Mardy Collins (New York, from San Antonio) — The 6-6 guard started the last eight games and averaged nearly 44 minutes a game in that stretch.

30. Joel Freeland (Portland, from Detroit) — Did not play. Signed two-year contract to play in the Spanish League.
