MLB: Clemens' streak of strikeouts ends
Associated Press
BALTIMORE Roger Clemens' streak of 200 consecutive starts with at least one strikeout ended last night against the Baltimore Orioles. The New York Yankees right-hander also was denied his 350th career victory. He allowed four runs, seven hits and three walks in six innings and was pulled with Baltimore up 4-0.
Clemens' run of 200 straight starts with a strikeout was the third-longest by an active major leaguer, behind Pedro Martinez (293) and Javier Vasquez (237).
The 44-year-old Clemens was locked in a scoreless duel with Erik Bedard before the Orioles scored four runs in the sixth. The uprising was capped by a three-run homer by Aubrey Huff.
Early in the inning, Clemens was visited at the mound by the Yankees' trainer, although the source of the pitcher's discomfort was not disclosed. Clemens continued to pitch, but the next four batters reached base.
