SWIMMER SEARCH OFF KAUA'I ENDED

U.S. Coast Guard officials have suspended their search off Kaua'i's north shore for a 42-year-old Washington state man who witnesses said was swept out to sea Sunday while swimming near Kilauea Point.

A Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point C-130 Hercules search plane crew and a HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew suspended their search late Monday night.

The Kaua'i Fire Department suspended its search Monday afternoon.

Roy Overstreet of Bellingham, Wash., was swimming at about 5:45 p.m. Sunday with his wife, Cara Jaye, 42, when they were reportedly swept out to sea, according to Kaua'i Fire Department officials.

Michael Ancharski, 56, of Kapahi, reportedly swam out and tried to assist the couple, but also ran into difficulty.

Jaye made it back to shore on her own, while Overstreet was reportedly swept farther out. Jaye suffered minor injuries and was taken to Wilcox Hospital for treatment.

Firefighters brought Ancharski safely to shore.
