Parents seek police records in alleged 1991 sex assault

Advertiser Staff

HILO, Hawai'i — The parents of a 19-year-old woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted at a Kea'au private school by an underage boy in 1991 are demanding that police surrender records in the case.

The woman reported the sexual assault on the grounds of the former Henry Opukahaia School on March 25, 1991, when the woman was a 4-year-old child. The woman and her family believe the youth involved was prosecuted in connection with the case in Family Court years ago, but have been unable to obtain complete police reports in the case.

The Circuit Court filings said the woman and her family "severely suffered" because of the assault.

The youth was a student at the school, and admitted to the assault, according to redacted police records that accompanied the court filing.
