Donors respond to Lanakila Meals on Wheels need
Advertiser Staff
Lanakila Meals on Wheels, Hawai'i's largest home food-delivery service for senior citizens, has received more than $30,000 in donations and will be able to continue service for 19 home-bound seniors. However, reduced funding this year means Lanakila Meals on Wheels still plans to cut 214 senior citizens from its program on Sunday. Another 269 senior citizens already are on the program's waiting list.
After Lanakila's financial situation was reported in The Advertiser earlier this month, more than 100 people and companies have made donations, including Island Insurance Foundation, which offered a $25,000 matching grant.
