Hawaii agency for deaf people to close Saturday

Advertiser Staff

Hawaii Services on Deafness is ending operations Saturday, Aloha United Way has announced.

"We are saddened to see such a worthy organization close its doors," said Susan Au Doyle, president of Aloha United Way, which is a partner agency with Hawaii Services on Deafness. "The closing of Hawaii Services on Deafness will be a significant loss to our community, particularly those whose needs it helped fill."

Hawaii Services on Deafness worked to actively educate the community and develop resources for people who are deaf, hard of hearing or deaf and blind.

Hawaii Interpreting Services will take over interpreter referral services Sunday, so deaf people will continue to have access to communications services.

No reasons was given for the closure of Hawaii Services on Deafness, which has been an Aloha United Way partner agency since 1980.
