"Taste" offers a mod, arty atmosphere (leave your nondesigner duds at home) and weekend entertainment by turntablists and Augie T.

In terms of what to wear, many kept the nondesigner casual fashions at home and made an effort.

Aaron's reimagining of its windows-on-Honolulu lounge gives it some upscale club kid-pleasing "Taste."

'TASTE' AT AARON'S

Where: Aaron's Atop the Ala Moana, 36th floor, Ala Moana Hotel, 955-4466.

When: 5 p.m.-midnight Sundays-Thursdays; 5 p.m.-4 a.m. Fridays-Saturdays.

Cover: Free, except for shows and late-night club promotions.

Got parking? Valet and hotel parking. I parked at an unnamed neighboring shopping center.

The appeal: One of the town's best (if long under utilized) lounges, with 180-degree city views, is renovated to appeal to 21-and-older club kids with cash.

The crowd: On the Saturday late night I stopped by, largely mid-twenty- to thirtysomethings, with a sprinkling of older folk from the lounge's past life.

What to wear: Many kept the nondesigner casual fashions at home and made an effort.

Interiors: Mod-ultralounge. Discreet scarlet and white mood lighting and arty above-bar glass lamps. Modular booths hug floor-to-ceiling windows, opposite raised half-circle booths.

The sweet spot: A makai VIP area with sweeping Waikiki, Honolulu, Ala Moana Beach Park and ocean views, and funky Euro leather and suede furnishings.

Food and drink: Appetizer menu, Aaron's full wine/champagne list. Bottle service from $195.

Happy hour: From 5 to 7 p.m. daily with sunset views, half-price drinks.

Also at Taste: Augie T., 9 p.m. Fridays; turntablists from late night to 4 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

The night shift ...

PARTY ON, GARTH

The folks at thirtyninehotel tell us that Bay Area-based turntablist DJ Garth — spinning Saturday at its weekly Double Joy Disco — is all that and a bag of Utz. Disco. Acid rock. Dub reggae. House. Electro. It's all in homeboy's magic crate of tricks. They've demanded we go. Got $10? From 9 p.m.-2 a.m. 21+. And speaking of magic crates, don't forget DJ Eskae's and Nocturnal Sound Crew's always sublime Soul Clap monthly at 39 tonight. You'll dance. You'll chill. You'll find souls that love The Specials AND A Tribe Called Quest.

A LOAD OF BULL

Meanwhile, at Ocean Club on Saturday, the Piranha Room monthly gives us Running With the Bulls: A Night in Spain. No word from the theme-loving Ocean Club gang, though, on whether any toro — real or faux — will be making a run through the dance floor tonight. Our advice? Watch where you step. From 7 p.m. until the wee hours, $10, 23+.
