Getting permits for fireworks

Fireworks permits for July 4 are being sold at two county offices and at businesses across the Big Island.

Permits will be issued weekdays at the Fire Administration Office in Puainako Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Tuesday, and at the Kona Fire Prevention Bureau at the Kona Service Center at 75-5706 Kuakini Highway today, Monday and Tuesday.

Fireworks permits also will be sold at Pinky's in Papa'ikou, Puna Fresh Foods, Wiki Wiki Stores in Hilo and in Orchidland and at Island Market in Na'alehu.

Permits cost $25, and allow holders to buy 5,000 firecrackers. For more information, call fire officials at 981-8370 or 327-3546.
