POLICE BEAT
Police seek leads in KSSK break-in

Advertiser Staff

Police are asking for the public's help in finding two men who broke into the business offices of KSSK Radio on June 5 and stole wallets, cameras and other items.

The items were discovered missing June 6 by employees arriving at work at the offices at 650 Iwilei Road, CrimeStoppers coordinator Sgt. Kim Buffett said.

An inventory of stolen items was still being compiled, and the value of the items was not available, Buffett said.

A surveillance video shows a man searching through cubicles between 5:34 and 5:38 p.m., police said.

"I think they just did a random search and got lucky," said Buffett, who advised all office workers to lock their desks when they step out of the office.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on cell phones.

She was arrested on Kealohanui and Pu'uiki streets in Waialua yesterday at 11:50 a.m.

MAN, 31, CHARGED IN THEFT, ASSAULT

Prosecutors have charged a 31-year-old man who allegedly stole a handbag from a woman in Mapunapuna and later assaulted an officer in trying to avoid arrest.

Clifford Kau is accused of second-degree robbery and first-degree assault on a police officer. He was charged at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday and was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Kau allegedly confronted a woman, 38, at 7 a.m. Wednesday and grabbed her handbag, police said. The shoulder strap of the bag broke while the two struggled for control.

As the woman reached down for the bag, Kau allegedly shoved her, causing her to fall, and fled with the bag.

Responding police officers located Kau at a nearby service station. He allegedly assaulted an officer and fled. Police discovered Kau hiding in the bed of a pickup truck in a parking lot a short time later.
