Big Island's Wee No. 2 overall at Oregon triathlon

Bree Wee of Kailua, Kona, finished second overall in the female division and Rachel Ross of Honolulu won her age division at the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championship today at Henry Hagg Lake, Ore.

Jennifer Garrison, 29, of Naperville, Ill., finished the 1.5-kilometer (1-mile) swim, 40K (24.9-mile) bike and 10K (6.2-mile) run in 2 hours, 9 minutes, 36 seconds. Wee, 28, finished in 2:11:46. Both were in the 25 to 29 age group.

Ben Collins, 24, of Lake Forest Park, Wash., finished first overall in 1:57:08.

In the female 30 to 34 age group, Ross, 31, finished in 2:13:40.

The top 16 in each age group earned a spot on Team USA at the ITU World Championship in Hamburg, Germany this fall. The top eight in each age group also qualified for the the 2008 World Championship in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Other Hawai'i finishers were Amy Bennett, 29, Kailua, (Female 25-29, 44th, 2:32:59), Aaron Altura, 44, Pa'ia, Maui, (Male 40-44, 38th, 2:19:40), Sharon Keith, 55, Kane'ohe (F 55-59, 7th, 2:44:30), Dieter Heycke, 72, Honolulu (M 70-74, 12th, 3:20:56).

More than 1,100 competitors from 48 states participated in the race.
