Golf: Fink, Merkle capture Westfield on Kaua'i

Sixteen-year-olds David Fink of Kailua and Kristina Merkle of Honolulu were the boys and girls champions, respectively, at the Westfield Aloha Section Junior PGA Championship at Princeville Makai Golf Club on Kaua'i.

The 36-hole tournament ended on Friday.

Fink, an 'Iolani student, shot a 1-under-par 71 Friday for a 5-under 139 for a four-stroke victory over Bradley Shigezawa of Honolulu (75). Merkle, a Moanalua student, shot a final-round 75 for a 1-under 143 and a three-stroke victory over Nicole Sakamoto of Honolulu.

Fink and Merkle qualified for the national Westfield Junior PGA Championship, July 11 to 14 at Westfield Group Country Club in Ohio.

Kalena Preus (64 on Friday), of Honolulu, shot an 11-under 121 to win the 12-and-under boys title, while Eimi Koga (62), of Honolulu shot a 6-under 126 to win the girls' 12-and-under title.

The 13 to 18 age divisions played at the Ocean/Lakes course, while the 12-under group, played on the Woods Par 66.
