Superferry arrives to cheers at Honolulu Harbor

Advertiser Staff

The Hawai'i Superferry arrived in Honolulu today to the cheers of throngs of thousands who showed up to greet the leviathan vessel that will soon ferry folks to and from the Neighbor Islands.

The 350-foot specially designed catamaran Alakai reached Pier 19 at about 3 p.m. following a 7,600-mile journey from Mobile, Ala.

The craft was welcomed at the pier with a private ceremony and oli (Hawaiian chant). Public viewing of the vessel is being planned for the near future.
