UH diver wins regional, qualifies for NCAA

University of Hawaii junior Magnus Frick won the 1-meter springboard diving event today on the first day of the NCAA Zone E Diving Regional held at the Oklahoma City Community College pool in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Frick gained one of the nine automatic berths available from the regional into the NCAA Championship March 15-17 in Minneapolis, Minn.

Frick, who led the preliminaries with a score of 360.35, posted a second six-dive list of 381.20 for a grand total of 741.55 to capture the title by 55 points.

Fellow Rainbow Warrior Mats Wiktorsson placed eighth with a score of 590.35 and will have a chance to pick up a berth on the 3-meter Friday or the platform on Saturday to secure one of the automatic berths.

The Zone E men's 3-meter final is slated for 3:15 p.m. Friday and the platform final gets underway Saturday at 1:45 p.m.
