Experts at the Palace, an outreach series that focuses on issues and concerns important in Hawai'i's historic community, takes place from noon to 1:30 p.m. today and will feature a maritime theme honoring longtime preservationist and Honolulu Advertiser columnist Bob Krauss, who passed away on Sept. 10, 2006.

Krauss, 82, was a reporter at The Advertiser for 55 years. Today's series will discuss his legacy, including a talk on the Hawai'i Maritime Center and the Falls of Clyde, one of Krauss' most cherished projects, and discussions of issues ranging from recent archaeological surveys in the Northern Hawaiian Islands through the conservation of Hawai'i's unique heritage of aquaculture in the form of monumental fishponds, to aspects of the Islands' World War II history.

Lectures will be held at the Old Archives Building on the 'Iolani Palace Grounds. It is the 19th presentation in its annual outreach series, which is organized by the Graduate Certificate Program in Historic Preservation at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, the Historic Hawai'i Foundation and the Friends of 'Iolani Palace.

For more information, call 956-5531 or email historic@hawaii.edu.

The event is free and open to the public.
