UH beats Kent State, loses to Oregon in softball

Advertiser Staff

Brandi Peiler hit a grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning as Hawaii defeated Kent State, 4-2, Thursday night in the final game on the opening day of the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

The Rainbow Wahine (13-3) struggled against Kent State (5-4) pitcher Brittney Robinson, who struck out 13 and allowed just three hits. But Clare Warwick singled with one out in the sixth, and Kaulana Gould and Audrey Andrade later walked before Peiler powered her homer to left.

Earlier, Melissa Rice pitched a one-hitter as Oregon (17-1) defeated Hawaii, 7-1.

Gould singled for UH's lone hit while Sari-Jane Jenkins and Jennifer Sailing each had two hits and two RBIs for Oregon.
