After deliberating six days, a Circuit Court jury this afternoon acquitted former dance school instructor Daniel Jones of the two most serious sex assault charges against him, but convicted him of two counts of third-degree sex assault.

Jurors could not reach a verdict on two other charges against Jones.

The third-degree sex assault charges each carry a prison term of up to five years. Jones was acquitted of first-degree sex assault charges that each carried maximum 20-year terms.

It was the second trial for Jones. Last year another jury acquitted Jones of 12 of 18 sex assault charges involving three former dance students. It could not reach verdicts on six other charges involving two other students.

Those remaining charges were tried again in a case that began Feb. 1.
