Free workshops on coastal land use offered

Free coastal land use workshops for landowners, planners, regulators, developers and the public are being offered by the Department of Land and Natural Resources Office of Conservation and Coastal Lands.

"These workshops will cover a range of important topics concerning coastal development," said Peter Young, DLNR chairman. "This includes understanding state shoreline certifications, landscaping, dune restoration, beach nourishment, emergency erosion control, hazard mitigation, county shoreline setbacks, jurisdictions and more."

A workshop will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Maui Community College, 310 Ka'ahumanu Ave., in Laulima building room 105 in Kahului.

Another workshop is being scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. on March 9 on Kaua'i at the Kaua'i Convention Hall (Kaua'i Ballroom) 4191 Hardy St., in Lihu'e.

Future workshops are being planned in Hilo, Kona, Honolulu and Moloka'i.
