Hawai'i's Carissa Moore did it again. Days after knocking off world champion Layne Beachley of Australia in the first round of the Roxy Pro women's contest in Coolangatta, Australia, the 14-year-old did it again Friday in the third round, 15.66 to 9.34."I'm super stoked, but I was honored just to be out there with Layne," Moore said. "She's such a great person, so I'm just excited."
Moore posted the highest single-wave score of the day, a 9.33 in her third-round matchup against Beachley.
"I can't find any excuses for what happened to me today," Beachley said. "I'm not going to beat myself up too hard about it."
Moore will square off against another Hawai'i surfer, Megan Abubo, in the quarterfinals. Abubo beat Australia's Samantha Cornish in the third round, 10.16 to 6.96. Hawai'i's Melanie Bartels lost in the third round to Rebecca Woods of Australia, 11.00 to 10.93.
