Hawai'i residents still flocking to Boyd hotels in Vegas

Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i residents continue to play a significant role in filling Downtown Las Vegas hotel rooms for Boyd Gaming Corp., according to the company's latest regulatory filing.

Local residents were responsible for 67 percent of the room nights at Boyd's 781-room California Hotel and Casino in 2006, the document filed at the Securities and Exchange Commission said.

At the 447-room Fremont Hotel and Casino, Hawai'i residents represented 56 percent of room nights. They accounted for 55 percent at the 406-room Main Street Station Casino.

Boyd, which operates 16 casinos in five states and has a 50 percent interest in the Borgata Hotel Casino in Atlantic City, also owns Vacations Hawaii, a seller of Las Vegas vacation packages in Hawai'i. Boyd also has six charter flights a week between Honolulu and Las Vegas.

Last year Boyd's Downtown Las Vegas properties contributed $278.7 million to the company's total revenue of $2.43 billion, the filing shows.
