It's 'Cat in the Hat' and a Coast Guard helicopter

Advertiser Staff

The U.S. Coast Guard will be celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday this morning at Kalihi Waena Elementary by chipping in with guest readers to share "The Cat in the Hat" story to students.

Rear Adm. Sally Brice-O'Hara and several members of the Coast Guard will take part in the reading, which honors Dr. Seuss' 103rd birthday and the 50th anniversary of the children's classic "The Cat in the Hat." The readings support the Read Across America celebration.

Other guest readers are from federal, state and local government offices, University of Hawai'i and local businesses.

A HH-65 Dolphin helicopter and crew from Air Station Barbers Point will make a special appearance at the school, as will a rescue boat and a fire engine from the Honolulu Fire Department.

The school choir, cheerleaders and hula dancers will perform for the group before the students adjourn back to their regular schedule.
