The family of an 82-year-old Canadian woman who was brutally stabbed to death Sunday spoke for the first time today and said Ingeborg Jandura was a devoted mother and grandmother who had lived a difficult life.

Jandura was found stabbed to death in a room at the Ilikai Waikiki Hotel Sunday. The medical examiner said she had been stabbed at least 100 times.

Jandura's husband, Tadeusz Zygmunt "Ted" Jandura, 83, is charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bail.

Today, the daughter of the couple issued a statement, saying her mother was a "kind, sweet and soft-spoken woman who loved her family and friends." The daughter, identified only as Suzanne, made the statement through Jessica Lani Rich, president of the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawai'i.

"At the age of 82, she was extremely healthy and loved to travel, especially to Hawai'i," the daughter said. "Although her life was difficult, she made a tremendous effort to maintain a positive and hopeful attitude. Her tragic death has devastated our family."

The statement made no mention of Ted Jandura, who had been abusive to his wife, according Canadian court records. The Janduras were from Edmonton, Alberta. Al Jandura, the couple's son, is in Hawai'i to take his mother's body back to Canada.
