Canadian John Hardy was among the first Western designers to work with Indonesian artisans to create a line of jewelry that combines Eastern craftsmanship with a Western aesthetic. Now his jewelry appears on the pages of major fashion magazines such as Vogue and Elle.

Neiman Marcus has carried John Hardy jewelry for years, but Phil's Gold and Diamonds is the first in Honolulu with the new spring 2007 collection. This season includes the Dot Collection, a favorite with fashion editors, crafted in a combination of silver and gold. The earrings, cuffs and necklaces are bold statement pieces.

Phil's Gold and Diamonds: 1580 Makaloa St.; 955-0069.

HOT MAMA TURNS 2

That haven of maternity stuff for the modern woman, Hot Mama Maternity in Kaimuki, is celebrating two years in business. Owner Paige Bradbury is throwing a party with lots of new lines, from humorous T-shirts to great-fitting maternity jeans for keiki and moms.

Astrologer Liz Howell will be on hand to read the celestial charts of all keiki, including those on the way. Howell will be in the store from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. No appointment necessary. Hot Mama Maternity: 3435 Wai'alae Ave., Suite 106 A, facing 9th Avenue; 737-2737.

SINGING MANICURIST

Deborah Lippmann, well known in the beauty world as a manicurist to the stars and founder of her own line of nail products (sold at Neiman Marcus), also is a jazz singer. That's why her nail polishes are named after jazz standards such as "Fever" and "Believe."

She will offer her own take on "Romantic Jazz" as part of the Return to Romance Music Festival. From 8:30 p.m. to midnight tonight she'll be at Lewers Lounge in the Halekulani; from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Monday she'll be in the Veranda at The Kahala Hotel & Resort. First come, first served, with no reservations required.

RED-HOT KICKS

Those fabulous Converse Chuck Taylors designed by Kicks Hawaii and Sig Zane for PRODUCT (RED), which The Advertiser wrote about on Feb. 19, are now available at Kicks Hawaii stores at Ward Centre and on Makaloa Street. You'd better hurry — the $100 kicks are a limited edition and many were pre-sold.
