Boise State ends UH women's basketball win streak

Associated Press

BOISE, Idaho — Michelle Hessing scored 13 points in the second half to help Boise State defeat Hawaii 66-56 to earn a share of its first-ever Western Athletic Conference title.

Tasha Harris added 12 for the Broncos (21-8, 12-4), who share the WAC title with Louisiana Tech and snapped the Rainbow Wahine's eight-game winning streak.

With the loss Hawaii (15-13, 9-7) finished in a tie with Fresno State for fourth in the conference standings and will have the fifth seed in next week's WAC tournament in Las Cruces, N.M.

The Broncos led for the most of the way and put it away in the second half.

Hawaii cut the lead to four points early in the second half, but the Broncos scored nine unanswered points. Boise State built its advantage to as many as 15 points and Hawaii would get no closer than seven after that.

Tanya Smith led Hawaii with 13 points and 13 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the year.
