Writer Tom Horton's wake on Thursday at Murphy's

Advertiser Staff

Tom Horton, former Honolulu Advertiser three-dot columnist and recent San Francisco Bay Area restaurateur, will be remembered Thursday at Murphy's Bar & Grill beginning at 5 p.m.

The lifelong writer who succumbed to cancer in November had a special affinity for Hawai'i, which was shared by his family.

Tom, his wife, Karen, and daughter Kate were frequent visitors to the Islands after they created a successful restaurant in Stinson Beach, in Marin County.

Don Murphy noted that Horton never missed a visit to Murphy's Bar & Grill when visiting.

"I would guess that he never missed any Irish hangout wherever he was," Murphy joked.

The Hortons moved from Sacramento to Hawai'i when Tom Horton was selected to replace Eddie Sherman as the Advertiser columnist on Sherman's retirement from the Advertiser.

Murphy encourages any old friends of Horton's to enjoy the gathering. Both Karen and Kate Horton will attend.
