Fire destroys Kaua'i school's portable building

An early morning fire today destroyed a wooden portable classroom at Wilcox Elementary School in Lihu'e.

The cause of the 5:23 a.m. fire is under investigation.

Damage to the structure and contents is estimated at more than $100,000, said Kaua'i County spokeswoman Mary Daubert.

Firefighters from the Lihu'e and Kalaheo stations responded to the alarm. The fire was reported under control at 5:47 a.m.
