Inouye with White Sox

Advertiser Staff

Former Hawai'i catchers Matt Inouye and Brian Bock were listed as non-roster invitees for the Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles, respectively.

Inouye said he was invited to mini-camp, where minor leaguers are asked to arrive earlier than the rest of the minor leaguers. He said he was warming up pitchers in the bullpen in Thursday's exhibition game in Arizona. Inouye was a 21st-round pick by the White Sox last June. Although he was primarily an outfielder at UH, he played catcher as a pro last season. He said he is taking things in stride.

"I'm just going along with the flow," he said Friday in a telephone interview.

He likened his first spring training as a pro to starting all over again.

"Feels like I'm trying out for varsity baseball for coach Dunn," he said, referring to his high school coach, Dunn Muramaru at Mid-Pacific Institute.

Inouye said he does not know if he will get into any spring training big league games.
