HawaiiUSA credit union members hit by e-mail scam

Advertiser Staff

Members of HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union are the latest target of a so-called phishing e-mail that tries to get them to disclose account information.

The e-mail asks people if they'd like to answer a five-question survey to receive $50. The fake e-mail said the answers will better help the company understand its customers.

The bogus message is the latest in a string of e-mails targeting members of credit unions in Hawai'i. While appearing official, the e-mails typically link to a phony Web page where respondents are asked for personal and account data that criminals use to get cash.
