Hawaiian Airlines most punctual carrier in January

Hawaiian Airlines was rated the nation's best airline for on-time performance in January.

Hawaiian led all carriers in punctuality with 91.9 percent of its flights arriving as scheduled, according to a monthly report from the U.S. Department of Transportation. A flight is counted as "on time" if it operated fewer than 15 minutes after the scheduled time shown in the carriers' Computerized Reservations Systems.

Hawaiian also earned the top ranking for fewest flight cancellations in January at 0.2 percent, representing only 11 cancellations out of 4,622 total flights.

The airline had the third-best score at taking care of customers' luggage with 3.72 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers.
