5 music legends to be honored Saturday

The Hawaii Academy of Recording Artists and Na Hoku Hanohano will honor five of Hawai'i's legendary artists with Lifetime Achievement Awards on Saturday at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.

The honorees are:

  • Saxophone player Gabe Baltazar

  • Vocalist Loyal Garner, known as "Hawai'i's Lady of Love"

  • Jazz pianist Rene Paulo

  • Society of Seven

  • The Surfers

    They will be recognized for their achievements and contributions to the industry and to the Hawai'i entertainment community.

    Tickets to the event, which starts at 11 a.m., are $70 per person, $1,000 for corporate tables. Lunch is included. Aloha attire is recommended.

    The Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts is a nonprofit organization formed in 1981 to promote the study, awareness and preservation of the Hawaiian music and recording industry. The Na Hoku Hanohano Awards will be presented June 20 at the Hawai'i Convention Center.
