MLK 'Peace Poetry' event to recognize student poets

Advertiser Staff

Winning student entries for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Poetry Contest will next month be recognized at an awards ceremony.

The students will be invited to share their poetry at the event set for 12:30 p.m. April 13 at Mission Memorial Auditorium, 550 South King St., next to Honolulu Hale.

The public is invited to attend the free event.

Entries for the contest were submitted by O'ahu students, grades K to 12.

The contest program aims to encourage students to seek to resolve conflicts through nonviolent means and express those ideas through poetry.

The awards ceremony is presented by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Coalition-Hawaii and the International Peace Poem Project. Support for the program is provided by the Mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts.
