Marine base hosts forum on advisory board

Advertiser Staff

The Marine Corps base at Kane'ohe Bay will host two "open house" meetings tonight and tomorrow to determine if there is public interest in forming a Restoration Advisory Board for the base and Waikane Valley.

Advisory boards are formed by military and community representatives to provide a forum for communication about work and plans at nearby cleanup sites.

If there is sufficient interest from members of the community, an advisory board may be formed to explore environmental issues at the Marine Corps base and Waikane Valley, the Marines said.

The first meeting will be held 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at 'Aikahi Elementary School. The second meeting will be held tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. at Waiahole Elementary School.

Information boards and fact sheets will be on display with base representatives on hand to answer questions about the process. No formal presentation will be given, so members of the community may attend any time during the two-hour window.
