Women videographers vie for film fest awards

Female videographers may win up to $2,500 in cash prizes in this year's Hawai'i Student Film Festival, set for 10 a.m. May 12 at the Signature Dole Cannery Theatres.
To spur interest in video entries by women, Big Island independent filmmaker Carmen Stevens is upping the ante with a $500 prize for the best female student-produced video.
Other awards: $1,000 for the best peace video, sponsored by the Honolulu Rotary Club; $1,000 for the overall winner, sponsored by Hawai'i Student Television.
