Open house environmental meetings

Advertiser Staff

The second open house meeting in as many days will be held tonight at Waiahole Elementary School from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to determine whether there is public interest in forming a Restoration Advisory Board for Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay and Waikane Valley.

Advisory boards are comprised of military and community representatives and provide a forum for effective two-way communication between the community and the Marine Corps about work and plans at nearby cleanup sites. A news release from the Marines said if there is sufficient interest from members of the community, a RAB may be formed to explore environmental issues at Kaneohe Bay and Waikane Valley.

The first meeting was held at Aikahi Elementary School on Tuesday.

Information boards and fact sheets will be on display with base representatives on hand to answer questions about the RAB process. No formal presentation will be given, so members of the community may attend any time during the two-hour window.
