Brushfire near Mililani Uka Elementary extinguished

Advertiser Staff

Fire crews spent about an hour this morning extinguishing what was described as a "major brushfire" that broke out between Kamehameha Highway and Mililani Uka Elementary School.

Four fire units were dispatched to the scene to battle the blaze, which was reported about 10 a.m.

It was the second major brushfire in as many days and the second one near a school.

A fire yesterday blackened about 300 acres behind Kamaile Elementary School in Makaha but did not damage or destroy any buildings. The fire this morning burned an area about the size of half a football field, fire officials said.

No structures were threatened or damaged during the Mililani fire and none of the students had to be evacuated, officials said.
