Federal courthouse closed by leaking water pipe
Advertiser Staff
The federal courthouse in Honolulu will be shut down this week because of a water pipe that flooded the building with hundreds of gallons of water.Chief U.S. District Judge Helen Gillmor said the courthouse closed Tuesday after the pipe, between the floor of the fourth floor and the ceiling of the third floor, burst and leaked 1,500 gallons of water. The water seeped as far down as the first floor.
She said crews are now drying and cleaning the courthouse, which she said likely will be closed throughout the week. She said officials hope to reopen Monday.
In the meantime, court hearings have been rescheduled, but some proceedings are being held at the Federal Detention Center and other locations.
