New Makaha brushfire may have been deliberately set

Advertiser Staff

Firefighters were battling a brush fire about 50 yards off the roadway near the Makaha Valley Country Club's East Course.

Police said the fire, which started shortly after 4 p.m. today, may have been set deliberately by a group of boys, who fled from security officers.

The fire was posing no immediate threat to property.

A separate brush fire on Tuesday blackened about 300 acres of vacant land on the mauka side of Kamaile Elementary School in Makaha. No buildings were damaged or threatened by the fire.
