UH-Hilo sweeps Chicago State in baseball

Lars Knepper pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts as Hawaii-Hilo beat Chicago State, 12-3, Wednesday night to complete a sweep of a non-conference baseball doubleheader at Wong Stadium.

Dayne Ogawa and Jon Vitale each had three hits, and Michael Higa had a two-run double and two-run single as the Vulcans improved to 4-16.

Sean Murphy hit a solo homer for the Cougars (0-14).

In the opener, Ogawa and Ronel Trias had four hits apiece and the Vulcans amassed 19 hits en route to a 17-4 victory.

Higa drove in four runs, and Trias and Robby Mowers each had three RBIs for Hilo. Kaiana Trask allowed four hits and three runs in six innings while striking out five to earn the victory.

Luke Grow had three hits for Chicago State.
