The officer said he spotted a suspicious-looking man enter the market shortly after 1 a.m.

As the man left the store, the officer suspected that the man was holding onto merchandise he had not paid for. The officer said he asked the man what was in his hand at which point the man lifted his hand over his head and displayed a knife.

The man refused to drop the knife as ordered, the officer said, and then threw it at the officer but missed.

The officer then arrested the man on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening and on a parole retake warrant.

Man arrested after attempting to dodge police

A 48-year-old man with no local address was arrested in Makaha this morning after police found him driving a stolen car.

Police said patrol officers tried to stop the man for a traffic violation about 3 a.m. when he attempted to flee and ran into a fixed object with the car.

The man jumped out and tried to run away but was captured moments later, police said.

Officers checked on the car's vehicle identification number and discovered it had been reported stolen. They then arrested the driver on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

Man arrested in tie to stolen car

A 39-year-old Salt Lake man was arrested last night in the Wai'alae area after police found him driving a car that had been reported stolen.

A patrol officer was checking on a report of a suspicious vehicle and checked on the car's license plates. The check revealed a 31-year-old man had reported that the car was stolen from him.
